Creating A Ready-To-Go, 360-Degree Data Model With Vantage Point

When I decided to write for our blog, “What’s the Point”, one of the things I wanted to do was review Vantage Point. Now, this may seem a bit unconventional since I work for Vantage Data (the company that developed Vantage Point) but being a professional in the data industry, I also know how everyone struggles create solutions that give businesses a 360 degree view. So, I really wanted to take an unbiased deep dive on what makes Vantage Point so successful.

Let’s be honest, are you on top of your data? Do you feel your data is quantifiable, contextual and dare I say, “intelligent”?

If you don’t know what Vantage Point is, don’t worry- I got you covered. Vantage Point is a business acceleration technology that solves the following two challenges – migration of data into a “ready-to-go” 360-degree data model at speed; and creating value by injecting context into the landed data.

In simpler terms, I like to think of Vantage Point as my own virtual data analyst. I give it the data I need and it does the rest. It can integrate different data sources and lets me set KPIs that can be cascaded across my business.

It can also (now this part is pretty cool) send me recommendations on what actions or tasks I should prioritize. This is a game-changer because I can now concentration on my next steps rather than spending valuable time looking for answers in the data. One of the main problems many companies face is how exactly do they put context in data? What’s the point of having billions of rows of data and multiple data sources without actually creating some sort of value because of it.

Data integration seems to be a touchy subject. In fact, some of our clients audibly groan when those words pop up. Why? Well traditional data integration takes a lot of time. The other thing I don’t like about traditional data integration is the time it takes to develop and consolidate. Dealing with Excel spreadsheets, Google Sheets and different cloud data warehouses takes time and skilled technical resources like developers would rather do something that directly benefits the business (such as working on upgrading a product).

Now, the good news is that there’s a feature in Vantage Point which allows you to integrate multiple data sources by the click of a button. It’s a drag-and-drop interface which means anyone can do it and it’s quite easy to learn. The data integration feature also helps establish a central and organized storage of raw data which assists in developing that single source of truth we all want. You can also create “ELT” processes to land raw data. This helps to improve governance and data lineage.

I think the integration feature is quite nifty and the fact that you don’t need technically skilled resources to run it makes it the perfect addition for businesses where time is sensitive for skilled resources.

Business generally lack is the ability to set and scale KPIs across the company. Most people don’t know their KPIs or don’t know how they’re tracking against their KPIs.

Key performance indicators have always been the most critical part of a business. Without KPIs, an organization can walk blindly into heavy business losses or performance issues.

However, using KPIs are not the only thing a company should focus on. Choosing the right KPI and making sure it is connected to everyone applicable is one of the crucial elements that will enable managers and members to stay on track for reaching and outperforming company’s goals and objectives.

As I’ve said before, the recommendation engine of Vantage Point really is a game-changer in the data solution industry. This features enables you to receive up-to-date recommendations and tasks based on your data.

Picture this, I own a fresh produce store. Previously, I used to rely on weekly stock reports that I used to analyse in order for me to know how much stock I should buy for the next week. Unfortunately, the weekly reports means that sometimes, towards the end of the week, I may be over-stocked or under-stocked and can’t do much about it.

Now, let’s change the scenario. Let’s say I’ve recently been onboarded to Vantage Point. It’s a Monday morning and I get an email saying “Increase Stock- demand has increased for potatoes”. I immediately call my supplier and within a few hours, my store is well stocked for exactly what it needs.

For SME’s, a recommendation engine like this will save time, energy and most importantly money. It really is a cutting-edge feature that I have yet to see elsewhere.

Another really cool feature of Vantage Point is the fact that I can create the modules or “data solutions” and deploy them to clients quite effortlessly.

The truth of the matter is that I am a busy person and I really don’t want to spend time writing lines of code or spend hours developing to get to the solution I need. And even then, I still need to spend more time deploying it across to everyone in the organization that needs it.

However, with the Vantage Point Module Solution, I can quickly create a module, select the assets I want within the module, and deploy it company-wide. These assets can include KPIs, Dashboards, AI/ML generated recommendations, ETL and Data Cleaning, Training videos and much more. But also, as a data analyst, I’ve really seen my fair share of tools and I personally think this is a front-runner and should be in every businesses personal toolkit.
